Happy September! This year is flying by. But, for four weeks, the events depicted in this chapter are taking place during the same month it’s being posted – that only happens a few times. π

TRANSCRIPT
Panel 1 (Alex leans against the door as Nolan runs towards her)
Nolan: Mommy!
Panel 2 (Alex raises her arm protectively as she kneels)
Alex: Aah! Ouch! Damn it, Nolan! Get back!
Panel 3 (Imogen shoos a shocked Nolan away)
Imogen: I’m just gonna get your mom upstairs, then I’ll start on dinner, okay?
Alex: I can make it myself!
Panel 4 (Imogen shoots Alex a Mom Face)
Imogen: You cannot, madame.
Panel 5 (Imogen keeps shooing away the other kids, who have assembled in the foyer, while Alex looks up the stairs)
Imogen: Kids, shoo! Give her some space.
Well, that was strangely harsh from Alex. Concussion, stress, or a peek into her true personality?
Oh no. No, no, no. Don’t talk to Nolan that way, Alex.
I’m so excited to see how this plays out! We know Alex struggles with accepting help and it was a major part of her last relationship breaking down… and Imogen struggles with helping too much. This is going to get SO JUICY and probably spur the first conflict between them as they both fall into their bad patterns, and I’m READY for it.
Yeah she’s NOT taking this well, sorry Nolan π
I am glad Imogen’s being firm with her. Alex’s pride and independence are wounded, but lashing out and taking stupid risks like trying to scale the stairs her first time home without help are not acceptable.
She is NOT dealing with having to be taken care of :c
that being said this is the best birthday present possible
Oh honey nooo. Alex, if you can’t bend down to let your daughter hug you without cussing because of the pain – even though you clearly, clearly want to! – there’s no way you’ll be able to manage the stairs on your own.
(Is there a word for something that isn’t foreshadowing but proves a point without saying it explicitly? Because that’s what’s going on here and I like it.)
Abigale! We’re birthday buddies! I’ve never met anyone with my same birthday before. But also, 100% agree.
I’m looking at this again and Nolan still looks so surprised and shaken. Poor kid π what a stressful situation
I get that Alex is used to taking care of herself, but whether she likes it or not, she needs to let people help her right now. She also needs not to take her stress out on her kid.
Ahh, I am all caught up!
:sadness:
I think we just saw a tiny bit of Lu, I believe the bunny slippers are her’s
