TRANSCRIPT
Panels 1+2 (Alex and Sparrow have a conversation across panels)
Sparrow: Congratulations are in order.
Alex: Oh, we’re just… doing a bit, so people stop asking questions. Shaking things up a little.
Sparrow: Keeping things fresh is one of your strengths.
Alex: Sparrow…
Sparrow: You’re not the one who needed to pick up the pieces last time. Because Eris loving you wasn’t enough for you.
Panel 3 (Imogen in foreground, Alex and Imogen continuing to talk in the background)
Alex: Harsh, but fair.
Sparrow: You need to hear it. Over and over again, apparently.
Man, Alex’s friends love riding her ass about her love life, don’t they?
I know we don’t actually know the story (yet?), but she probably deserves it if it’s coming from her friends.
We know enough to know she’s seemingly walked away from what seemed like a good thing because she got cold feet. That’s fairly typical commitment avoidance, and obviously frustrating to onlookers. I also get this was seemingly fairly recent.
Still, her friends are being awfully pushy about it. I get the impression from the “picking up the pieces” thing, though, that Eris is also a friend of Sparrow’s and the others, so there’s hurt feelings all around, probably, but at a certain point, they should probably remind themselves it’s not their love life, and even if Alex is quick to assign herself the role as the Bad Guy in that breakup, it doesn’t really mean it’s that cut and dry, probably.
Considering that Sparrow thinks Alex is dating Imogen cos for some reason she decided that instead of quickly explaining that Imogen wasn’t actually her gf was somehow harder to do than fake dating her, I can see why Sparrow would criticize her so harshly.
If Alex did such a horrible thing to her gf, why wouldn’t her friends expect her to do something equally awful to her “new gf” in their “relationship”? Why would anyone think she’s changed? It’s completely understandable that Sparrow would be pissed at Alex for getting into a relationship when she hasn’t shown to change at all, cos why do that unless she doesn’t care about how likely it is she’ll hurt Imogen as badly as (if not worse than) her ex?
From the way it looks towards others (cos again, FAKE dating), Alex is completely, 100% the asshole here. No shit she’s gonna get some snide comments from her friends at the VERY least. They all must pity Imogen for getting with someone who has ISSUES.
