Alex speaks the truth!!

TRANSCRIPT
Panel 1 (Imogen looking startled as Alex leans in, becoming excited)
Imogen: Oh my God! Alex! I can’t just move in!
Alex: Why not? I have all this space!
Imogen: What about the kids?
Alex: Bring ’em!
Imogen: Wh- I can’t…
Alex: Why not? We’re right next door. They can come and go, but you can stay here as long as you need to. As long as you want.
Panel 2 (Alex, close-up)
Alex: Let him get a taste of what it’s like when you’re not around to make his life easy.
Panel 3 (Imogen, looking to the side, distressed)
Imogen: I should… try to make it work.
Panels 4 (Alex, basically doing the Patrick the Starfish ‘take all the things and move them…’ meme)
Alex: You can try… from here.
Maybe this is the Sapphic Spectacles kicking in but: Alex is talking a LOT of sense!
It certainly beats trying to schlep everyone across town! Give Imogen a chance at autonomy, let Jackass learn how to run a household by himself, and when the kids get fed up with his ineptitude, they can go next door to Mom. And Alex gets to see what a large noisy household it really like first hand lol
As long as he doesn’t get it into his head to take the kids and move them far away from her. Did he adopt Lucas?
What Tallah said, and also, Imogen, don’t try and make the relationship work with him. It’s HIS fault.
Amo a Álex 🥺🥺✨✨
Imogen, you’re not obligated to do a n y t h i n g. That fuck should be trying to make it work with you – don’t you accommodate him more than you already have
This is great, hope Imogen accepts
I love the background in the first panel (and everything in the comic, but anyway!). It’s such a subtle reminder of how much is going on in the background for Alex 😍
No, Imogen. You don’t need to make make anything work. That guy cheated on her, and he wasn’t even sorry! She doesn’t owe him a thing.
Alex’s hands breaking out of the last 2 panels? Beautifully done, and works so well to convey her gesture!
Alex’s heart is truly in the right place, but this is something that is definitely going to test the strength and bond of their friendship. Asking Imogen to come move in will involve moving in everything – not just material things. With Imogen will come her children, their desires, her responsibilities to them, and then all of their emotional turmoil involving their parents possibly divorcing. There will be pushing boundaries, lashing out, et cetera.
I can almost guarantee that asshole is going to try to fill the kids’ heads with toxic nonsense to try to get back at Imogen and Alex, too. To make the process as difficult – no, IMPOSSIBLE as it can possibly be to try to force Imogen back home or to be absolutely, positively alone. “If I can’t have her, no one can” mentality.
But I’m serious about Alex about to be facing a lot for her friend and for herself. If the story goes in that direction. I know that phrase “If you can’t love me at my worst” is used a lot, but it will honestly mean something here. Imogen is going to be healing and hurting and learning to be self-sufficient for the first time in who knows how long? She’s going to be facing demons in a person she put her whole life into all while trying to juggle the lives of her children.
This going to be messy. Hopefully my tired rambling meant something! Aah!
It makes sense, but I do hope Alex isn’t coming on too strong. Of course, maybe Imogen needs some firmness right now to help offset her uncertainty.
Like, if nothing else, it’s next door. It’s not an enormous risk.
(Alex, basically doing the Patrick the Starfish ‘take all the things and move them…’ meme)
I am here for that ‘Oh my god, I’m actually saying this’ expression in panel one.
So wonderful.
oh my god they were roommates
