TRANSCRIPT
Panel 1 (Imogen and Jonathan arguing, from the side)
Imogen: Is she someone from work? Is that why you’re gone all the time?
Jonathan: She isn’t anyone! She–
Imogen: You know who I’m talking about! That means there’s someone!
Jonathan: What, no–
Panel 2 (close up, Imogen)
Imogen, in the style of a iMessage text: you don’t kiss like a man who’s been married for eleven years π
Panel 3 (close-up, Jonathan)
Jonathan, icily: …that’s out of context.
-THERE IS NO GOOD CONTEXT- 8/
My God I am so -furious- on her behalf. Heβs so -gross-.
……… There is *NO* way for that phrasing to be out of context, jerkface. Please. elaborate as to what possible situation that could be “misconstrued” as. It sure as hell isn’t the company production of Much Ado About Nothing. That’s not gonna excuse your ass for anything, try again.
In what possible context could that be innocent? Not gonna fly, Jonathan. This is inexcusable.
Oh, this is gonna be good. Please, enlighten us as to how that can be taken out of context. -_- We are all ears.
No, no, let him finish. I want to hear what “context” he can come up with.
It was his SISTER, y’all. That makes it less creepy, right?
Wait …
I don’t like the look on his face and I am worried about her and also he is the WORST.
@Alisha – Same, worried he’s going to turn this whole thing around so it’s all Imogen’s fault somehow. D:<
Me too, terrified here π
Oh I *love* that you’re only choosing to reveal the exact content of the text messages *now*, it works so well.
…I want to know what “”context”” he believes would make that text sound 100% better.
He’s rehearsing for a play. That’s it. Lead role as the town jester LMAO
lmao what an infuriating response
Gaslighters hate it when you quote their conversations back to them word for word.
Dude, unless you’re rehearsing for a play, there is NO context in which that would be okay. (And even then that text would be kind of sus out-of-performance talk tbh)
yeah if it was not sus, his immediate response in-thread to her would have been him saying ‘stop it, I told you this is just for the play and you’re making me uncomfortable’
Also this is so real to me as I have a friend going through a separation right now. Her husband isn’t cheating, but he is doing the same thing of saying or doing something shitty, and then when she discusses it with their couple’s counsellor or her lawyer he claims he’s being taken out of context.
“What? No! -”
Oh, backpedaling is a SURE sign you know you’re Cold Busted. I look forward to him getting his comeuppance!
The icicles in that speech bubble are pushing all my fight/flight/fawn buttons π¬ Hope Imogen stays safe but I hope she doesn’t back down!
Hmm, maybe this is a reason for Lucas’ unhappiness (besides general tweendom and unconfirmed queer issues). He might know about the affair and feel incapable of telling his mother about it. That would explain why he’s particularly unhappy when he’s being babysat on Valentine’s Day (which also plays into the sense of having too much responsibility and not enough authority over his siblings, a common eldest-child issue), when he knows his parents are out having a “good time” with this secret hanging over them.
Speaking of additional context, him telling Imogen they can’t afford her education looks even sh*ttier when you find out he was cheating on her the whole time. Undermining her ability to support herself and relegating her role to his helper while knowing the whole thing could come crashing down and leave her with nothing to fall back on.
This story arc is causing me physical pain. Donβt want to rush the artist, but I hope this part ends soon.
omg the description lollllll
So, this is kind of fridge logic since I know it’s been a long time since the chapter was new, but. It seemed like there were hints that Jonathan was hiding something about the finances themselves and not just that his bank password is his mistress’s name? Did Imogen not notice anything there? It’s possible that he’s just bad with managing their money and won’t accept help (not great but an honest enough marriage problem), or that they’re heading for financial trouble and he’s been lying saying they’re fine. But I had assumed he’d been spending money on his girlfriend or something else he didn’t want Imogen to know about, that she would find out if she started looking at their bank stuff. And she just saw all the bank stuff. Did he find a way to hide it, or maybe she just didn’t look at it that closely?
